France saw an almost 10% year-over-year growth in new passenger car registrations in November 2022, reaching 133,961 units. On the other hand, the year-to-date result hit 1.37 million registrations, which is still nearly 9% below the previous year, as reported by InsideEVs.
Plug-in car sales in France – November 2022
Plug-in car sales had approximately 34,912 registrations in France, representing a YoY increase of 16%, while 32,614 of those registrations are attributable to passenger plug-in car registrations.
Based on the data provided by L’Avere-France, the passenger plug-in car registrations had a YoY growth of 14%, indicating a slight increase in market share of 24.3% from 23.4% the previous year.
Meanwhile, light commercial all-electric vehicle sales have also been booming, setting a third straight monthly record with a YoY increase of 65% to 2,265 units.
New plug-in vehicle registrations:
- Passenger BEVs: 20,274 (up 23.5%) at 15.1% market share
- Passenger PHEVs: 12,340 (up 1.5%) at a 9.2% market share
- Light commercial BEVs: 2,265 (up 65%) at 7.8% market share

- Total plug-ins: 34,912 (up 16%)
Plug-in car sales in France – YTD
There have been over 304,000 new plug-in electric car registrations in France this year. For comparison, around 315,000 plug-ins were registered in France in the same period last year.
Registrations year-to-date:
- Passenger BEVs: 177,985 (up 28%) at 13.0% market share
- Passenger PHEVs: 112,003 (down 11%) at 8.2% market share
- Light commercial BEVs: 13,873 (up 31%)
- Light commercial PHEVs: 527
- Total plug-ins: 304,404 (up 10%)
Models
L’Avere-France provides the following precise registration data for electric vehicles:
L’Avere-France suggests that the Tesla Model Y is the best-selling plug-in electric vehicle in France, with 2891 registrations, followed by its sibling Tesla Model 3, with 2809 units. In addition, both models also landed 10th and 11th position on the overall ranking, respectively.
The top five EVs with the most registrations were completed by the Dacia Spring (1,954), the all-new Renault Megane E-Tech (1,783), and Peugeot 208 (1428).
France’s electric vehicle market continues to grow as government programs, and automakers’ electrification efforts intensify worldwide. France’s net zero emission goals would not be all that difficult to reach at this rate.
