Electric automaker Fisker Inc announced a new partnership with module battery swapping leader Ample on May 2, 2023, aiming to develop its Ocean SUVs with swappable batteries by 2024.
For context, battery-swapping is the process of replacing a drained battery with a newly charged one. Its fast and convenient solution makes it preferable compared to charging EVs at utility stations.
Purpose
The move to equip Fisker Ocean SUvs with Ample’s swappable batteries is a significant part of the automaker’s long-term sales expansion plan to the United States and Europe.
“Our partnership with Ample will enable us to broaden the vehicle use case for our customers. We’re thrilled to offer Ample’s innovative battery-swapping system, which will bring a new level of affordability to the Fisker Ocean and potentially to the other vehicles we intend to bring to market in the future.”
Henrik Fisker, Fisker Inc Chairman and CEO
Ample CEO also expressed his delight with the newly formed partnership, stating that it would aid the company in offering its battery-swapping tech to many other EVs in the future.
“We’re incredibly excited about our relationship with Fisker. They’ve developed best-in-class EVs that our team is proud to support. We’re looking forward to assisting with making the Fisker Ocean available to a wide segment of customers as a part of our goal to bring more EVs on the road.”
Khaled Hassounah, Ample CEO and co-founder
Notably, Fisker plans to initially offer the Ample-powered EVs to fleet operators who aim to “transition to electric mobility without economic or operational compromises.”
