However, it must be noted that the new pricing model only applies to those states that consider it legal.

Pay for the electricity you use, not the time it takes to charge with kilowatt hour (kWh) pricing and Time of Use (TOU) rates – now available across the entire EVgo network (where legally permissible). Learn more: https://t.co/JzYPAuzMz7 pic.twitter.com/8PdacjLomc

New pricing model details

EVgo will now offer the kWh pricing across its entire network, where it is legally allowed. Through this, electric vehicle owners will only be charged for their actual electricity consumption, regardless of the time they spend charging.

We love customer feedback! ICYMI, EVgo recently expanded kWh pricing to 20 states across the U.S. Drivers all over have told us they're excited about the change, including John from Vermont (thanks, John!). Nonetheless, the company will still include a time of use (TOU) feature in its kWh-configured chargers for customers to benefit from lower pricing during low-demand periods.

This pricing strategy aligns with the company’s efforts to reduce the electrical grid’s stress and expand customer charging options.

“By transitioning to kWh and TOU pricing, EVgo aims to expand pricing options to serve a variety of drivers and increase customer choice.”

EVgo’s US presence

EVgo is among the biggest public charging networks in the US market, Electrek reports. It already deployed more than 3,200 fast chargers throughout 850+ stations in over 30 states.

It actively works to keep improving the electric vehicle charging experience by launching various technologies like Plug & Charge and multiple free charging schemes for new EV buyers.

US-based EV owners can now access EVgo’s  TOU pricing page for off-peak charging. Expanding the kWh pricing will also enable drivers to save money by only paying for their actual electricity consumption. Customers can also get a subscription plan for further cost reduction per charge. Apart from these, the company also encourages customers to collect points for charging credits via the EVgo Rewards™.
