DC fast charging network EVgo formally announced Tuesday the expansion of its kilowatt-hour pricing model throughout the United States.
However, it must be noted that the new pricing model only applies to those states that consider it legal.
New pricing model details
EVgo will now offer the kWh pricing across its entire network, where it is legally allowed. Through this, electric vehicle owners will only be charged for their actual electricity consumption, regardless of the time they spend charging.
Nonetheless, the company will still include a time of use (TOU) feature in its kWh-configured chargers for customers to benefit from lower pricing during low-demand periods.
This pricing strategy aligns with the company’s efforts to reduce the electrical grid’s stress and expand customer charging options.
“By transitioning to kWh and TOU pricing, EVgo aims to expand pricing options to serve a variety of drivers and increase customer choice.”
