Battery component firm ENTEK plans to build its new li-ion battery separator plant in Terre Haute, Indiana, worth $1.5 billion.
“This is a great day for Terre Haute and for the state of Indiana. ENTEK’s decision to locate a new, $1.5 billion battery component manufacturing facility here will have a transformational impact on the West Central Indiana community and the Hoosier economy for generations to come. This decision cements Indiana’s leadership in the electric vehicle supply chain sector, and we are thrilled to partner with ENTEK to speed the commercialization of U.S.-built EVs.”
Governor Eric J. Holcomb
Project details
The press release noted that the new 340-acre battery plant is the firm’s biggest investment since inception, which is expected to generate about 642 high-paying jobs by the end of 2027.
ENTEK plans to develop four buildings on the 1.4 million square feet site, which will produce separators sufficient to supply 1.4 to 1.6 million electric vehicles per year by 2027.
Undoubtedly, the project will help the state to further develop its EV industry.
“We chose Terre Haute for many reasons including the excellent workforce opportunity, the incredible support provided by Steve Witt and the Economic Development Corporation, a nearly shovel ready construction site with available utilities located in an industrial park, excellent vocational education, and the business-friendly incentives from both the state and local governments.”
ENTEK CEO Larry Keith
Fundings
Construction Dive reported that the Oregon-based firm secured $200 million in funding from the Department of Energy under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
Furthermore, ENTEK will also obtain tax credits from the state of Indiana for its primary operations, including smart production and job training.
AP News reports that the Indiana Economic Development Corp. will offer tax credits of up to $8 million. Apart from that, it will also provide training grants of up to $300,000, both pending approval. Moreover, the IEDC will also allocate up to $5.4 million in grants and performance payments.

ENTEK intends to begin construction on the battery separator campus as soon as it gains the necessary permits from the state authority. It expects to begin operations in Indiana by 2025 to 2027, significantly boosting the state’s growing auto industry.
“Indiana is one of the most manufacturing intensive states in the country. I am thrilled to welcome ENTEK to Terre Haute and to the Hoosier state. As the only American company to own and produce ‘wet-process’ lithium-ion battery separator materials, ENTEK is going to help to pave the way for electric vehicle production in Indiana and reduce American manufacturers’ reliance on imported products. Their operation in Terre Haute will create hundreds of new jobs and continue to grow the already sizable automobile industry in Indiana.”
