Romanian legacy automaker Dacia has just revealed the updated version of its low-cost Spring electric city car for the 2024 model year.
Some updates include a Duster-style appearance, upgraded interior design, and new technologies like bidirectional charging. However, Dacia did not change the model’s electric motors and battery packs.
Updated exterior design
The 2024 Dacia Spring seems to get inspiration from its popular Duster SUV in terms of exterior design but maintains remarkable ground clearance and crossover clues.
It sports a more contemporary appearance due to its Duster-styled grille, LED headlights, skid plate, and bumper intakes.
The 3,701 mm (145.7 inches) long model’s tail also features a new black trim that links the modern LEDs to enormous plastic cladding on the bumper.
Dacia also modified the model’s fenders, streamlined the surfacing, and put a ribbon on its C-pillar to improve its crossover look.
New interior features
Dacia’s new 2024 Spring also has an upgraded interior design with more features to compete with the growing number of electric city cars in the market.
Dacia upgraded the classic-looking dashboard with a more modern design. The Extreme flagship trim’s digital cockpit offers a 7″ digital instrument cluster and a 10″ free-standing infotainment display, while lower trims will only have a smartphone holder.
It also revamped the model’s center console, gearbox selector, climate vents, and dashboard-mounted tray to align with the brand’s other models.
Power and performance
The Dacia Spring did not get an update to its underpinnings as the Romanian automaker explained that the existing owners’ average daily trip is only 37 km (23 miles) long at 37 km/h (23 mph) speed. Therefore, the current electric motor that generates either 44 hp (33 kW / 45 PS) or 64 hp (48 kW / 65 PS) is already sufficient for the city car regarding performance.
The 26.8 kWh battery delivers a WLTP-rated range of over 220 km (137 miles). As for charging capability, lower trims only support 11kW AC charging, while more potent trims get 30kW DC.
Nonetheless, the updated 2024 Spring now offers a bi-directional charging capability, enabling owners to utilize the small battery pack to power electric devices.
“Today, the New Dacia Spring passes another milestone, taking those qualities that made it a success to the next level. Even more attractive than ever with an entirely renewed and more robust design, yet still as practical with exceptional interior storage space for its segment; more versatile than ever with a more accessible 65 hp engine, yet still as efficient thanks to a carefully managed weight, while remaining the most affordable full-electric model on the market.”
Dacia
Despite the limited range, the Dacia Spring remains a popular electric vehicle option in Europe due to its affordable prices. The automaker has yet to announce the new pricing of the updated version for the spring. For reference, the outgoing model had a starting price of only about $24,900 (23,000 Euro), excluding incentives.
