Automaker Cupra has officially presented its virtual two-door concept sports car DarkRebel during the launch of Cupra Tavascan. Interestingly, the SEAT-owned brand plans to utilize data from the digital space to prepare the car’s future production in the real world.
The DarkRebel exists within the automaker’s space in the Metaverse. Through Metahype, people can explore and configure the digital concept car, overcoming physical world boundaries.
“After 5 years of building the brand CUPRA in a nowadays world, it is time to think about the next step. Our next dream. The CUPRA DarkRebel is the ultimate interpretation of our vision.”
Cupra CEO Wayne Griffiths
DarkRebel features
Exterior
The Cupra DarkRebel’s muscular visage and strong lines make it a visually appealing vehicle. It has a structure of a shooting brake with the dimensions of a sports vehicle. The concept car’s long hood and cabin’s positioning toward the back of the body also significantly contribute to its classic sports car appearance.
Additionally, a central spine links the front and back of the DarkRebel to further underline the concept’s sporty feel. It resulted in a design that resembles the Bugatti Veyron and Chiron.
Interior
The official press release noted that the interior of the new digital-only car features “progressive” bucket seats and a “progressive gamifying steering wheel and shifter, that connects the human and the machine all in one.”
Indeed, the car was designed with both drivers and gamers in mind. Given its metaverse presence, it was probably developed with individuals under 30 in mind.
Cupra’s three virtual environments
According to the press release, Cupra’s “Hyper Configurator” lets users customize the concept in three different environments:
- Exponential square: where the CUPRA Tribe can live the raw value of CUPRA design. Inspired by natural elements like minerals and stones, here the CUPRA raw textures and earthy colours can be experienced and challenged by the user in the Hyper Configurator.
- Exponential cube: where you get a soft spot for the racing world. Here the digital aesthetic of neon like glow, algorithmic movements, parametric geometries and fluor lights can be experimented. Sleek and vibrant, orthogonal, and fluid at same time.
- Exponential ∞: the highest level of Exponentiality disconnects from reality and embraces a dreamlike, otherworldly, and surreal universe with no constraints from the physical world. The environment and materials choices are dominated by an ethereal feel creating a fully realized metaverse.
Cupra could actually transform it into something ready for the road, especially in light of the great track record of the brand that was previously just a sporty trim level for SEAT vehicles.
Unfortunately, Cupra has not yet mentioned the DarkRebel’s drivetrain. However, considering that the DarkRebel may become the brand’s halo car in the future, we can anticipate all-wheel drive and greater power than the newly unveiled Cupra Tavascan VZ. It has 250 kW (335 horsepower) and 500 pound-feet (679 Newton-meters) of torque.

Undoubtedly, the DarkRebel will stand out in the market thanks to its distinctive design and innovative technology. According to Cupra, the CUPRA DarkRebel Showcar will soon be available in real form when all of the user configurations have been gathered, affecting the vehicle’s final design.
