While the Tesla Model Y pleased Euro NCAP the most during its recent round of testing, several other vehicles also fared well. For instance, the 2022 Ora Funky Cat EV received the maximum five-star rating and scored very well across the categories.
The electric vehicles made by Ora, a subsidiary of Great Wall Motors in China, will be sold in Europe. Therefore, they must undergo testing and be approved for usage there, according to InsideEVs.
The Ora Funky Cat EV was reportedly designed by a veteran Porsche designer, demonstrating just how far China‘s automotive industry has progressed since being made fun of for crumpling into odd shapes during crash tests.
Notably, the Fiat 500 electric, one of the Ora Funky Cat’s potential competitors, received just four stars. Hence, the notion that a comparable Chinese vehicle outperformed it is remarkable.
The Cat received excellent ratings in all categories, including 92% for adult occupant protection, 83% for kid protection, 74% for pedestrian protection, and an astounding 93% for safety assistance.
For reference, these are the features necessary for the highest safety grade:
· standard autonomous emergency braking (AEB) that is functional when reversing
· lane assist system
· a speed governor
Furthermore, it includes the majority of the safety features that Euro NCAP prefers to find in modern automobiles, except for knee airbags, rear chest/pelvis airbags, and an active hood.
As a Chinese competitor to the Renault Zoe or Peugeot e-208, the Ora Cat series of vehicles made its debut in Europe last year at the IAA in Munich.
Its Euro specification was made public earlier this year. It will be equipped with a 48 kWh battery pack, a WLTP range of 310 km, and a ton of gadgets as standard. Furthermore, its assembly and material quality will be quite high if the prototypes showcased in Germany last year give any hint.
