In July, plugin electric vehicles (PEV) returned to its usual self, increasing 112% year over year with more than 505,000 registrations, while plugin hybrids sales increased by 174% year over year with 137,000 registrations last month, according to CleanTechnica.

Despite the significant growth of plugin vehicles, it only hit 27% market share, while the overall passenger car market reached 30% due to the tax cut on most fossil fuel models. On the other hand, battery electric vehicle’s share accounted for 20% country’s auto sales last month, maintaining the 2022 share at 26%.

It is worth noting that China alone accounted for 60% of global plugin registrations last month, and if the transition to electrics continues this way, this market has the potential to be BEV-based by 2025.

The BYD Song Plus ranks first against rivals on July’sJuly’s list of best sellers. For further information, here are the last month’s top 5:

#1 – BYD Song Plus (BEV+PHEV)

In July, 32,367 PHEVs were registered, while 5,417 BEVs came close to breaking the previous record. With its 37,784 registrations, which were just a few more than the Wuling HongGuang Mini EV’sEV’s total, it won the title of July’sJuly’s Best Seller.

#2 — Wuling HongGuang Mini EV

This little four-seater won second place with 37,128 registrations last month. Nevertheless, Wuling HongGuang Mini EV, which is currently selling more than 35,000 units each month, has emerged as a trendsetter and a disruptive force in urban mobility.

#3 — BYD Qin Plus (BEV+PHEV)

BYD’sBYD’s midsize sedan secured a podium spot with a record of 30,093 registrations in the previous month, with both models posting record results (18,817 units for the PHEV, 11,276 for the BEV)

#4 — BYD Han (BEV+PHEV)

A near-record of 12,727 registrations of the BEV version and a record 12,543 registrations of the PHEV version led to 25,270 registrations for BYD’sBYD’s flagship sedan in July, a clear outcome of its recently launched slight facelift and revised specs.

#5 — BYD Dolphin

The tiny BYD climbed into the top 5 last month after a record 20,493 registrations. It appears BYD has more room to raise the output of its less expensive model now that its production is not as constrained.

Aside from the top 5, #6 BYD Yuan Plus set a record with 19,239 registrations, marking its sixth straight outstanding performance. It also completed BYD’sBYD’s lineup of sales champs in every category. It is followed by the 7th placer GAC Aion Y with 12,530 registrations, the 8th placer BYD Tang with 11,501 registrations, and the VW ID.4 with a record 11,414 registrations at 9th place.

It is also worth noting that in addition to the previously reported Aion Y record score, the Aion V compact crossover also achieved a record month, with 5,070 registrations which marked another successful month for GAC.
