The Chinese Electric Vehicle market has declined over the month of April, but surprisingly, Chinese EV maker BYD has a continuous increase in its sales.

According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), sales of New Energy Vehicles have a total of 299,000 units, a much slower growth compared to the first three months of 2022.

Data from CAAM

According to the company’s report, BYD’s total plug-in car sales in China have totaled 105,475, which is an increase of 321% compared to a year ago. So far, BYD has managed to avoid the declining Chinese auto market. As other automakers are facing various challenges, resulting in declining sales, this doesn’t seem to faze BYD.

April is the second month that they haven’t sold non-rechargeable cars, and the second that they sold more than 100,000 units. During the same month, BYD’s all-electric car sales (BEVs) were much higher than plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). However, PHEV’s year-over-year growth is still much higher.

BYD plug-in car sales results

  • BEVs: 57,403 (up 256% year-over-year)
  • PHEVs: 48,072 (up 439% year-over-year)
  • Total: 105,475 (up 321% year-over-year)
