Chinese battery giant CATL introduced its first “superfast charging” battery breakthrough, “Shenxing.” It promises to deliver a driving range of 400 km between 10-minute charges.
CATL’s 4C superfast charging LFP battery
The Independent reports that CATL’s Shenxing can support a driving range of more than 700 km on a full charge. That capacity is about 60% more than most EV models in the market in 2023.
As mentioned, it can replenish in just 10 minutes for another 400 km range.
CATL refers to Shenxing as the “world’s first 4C superfast charging LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery.”
The battery maker further claims that applying a “brand-new superconducting electrolyte formula” gave the battery an improved capacity and fast charging capability.
“The future of the EV battery technology must remain steadfastly anchored at the global technology frontier, as well as the economic benefits.
As EV consumers shift from pioneering users to ordinary users, we should make advanced technology accessible for all and enable everyone to savour the fruits of innovation.”

CATL aims to begin Shenxing’s volume production by the end of the year. Meanwhile, shipments will start as early as 2024.
However, it has yet to reveal the first automakers to get the initial batch of Shenxing batteries. Nonetheless, the report stated that some customers are Tesla, Honda, BMW, Toyota, VW, Volvo, etc.
