Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD’s business growth has been unstoppable, with an astounding 49% surge in its global plug-in electric car sales in April 2024.

BYD recorded its second-best-ever monthly result with its 312,048 passenger plug-in car sales globally in April 2024. This figure indicates a 49% year-on-year increase, demonstrating a consistent and robust demand for BYD products.

BYD’s commercial electric vehicle sales reached 1,197 units, bringing its total plug-in car sales to 313,245 in April 2024.
It is also worth noting that 41,011 units (or 13%) of the total volume were exported to other countries. This figure indicates a new export record with a remarkable YoY growth of 177%.
YTD sales results
This year to date, BYD’s passenger plug-in car sales exceeded 936,000 units. It represents a 24% sales growth compared to the same period last year. Refer to the table below:

In hindsight, BYD reported a 62% YoY sales increase to more than 3 million passenger plug-in cars in 2023. It enabled BYD to advance as China’s largest automaker and automotive brand.
This year, BYD aims to surpass a 20% average growth rate.
Top-selling models
As expected, the popular BYD Song family was the top-selling plug-in electric car model in April 2024. It sold a total of 80,860 units (up 126% YoY), including the battery-electric and plug-in hybrid variants.
BYD Qin sedan followed behind with a 21% YoY sales increase to 51,170 units (BEV + PHEV). The all-electric BYD Seagull landed the third spot with sales of 34,832 units.
The fourth placer was the all-electric BYD Yuan family, with 34,701 unit sales, indicating an 11% YoY drop.
The top five was completed by the plug-in hybrid BYD Destroyer 05 with sales of 32,800 units in April 2024.
