January 2023 sales results:
Sales | YoY Growth | |

PHEVs | 78,826 | up 69% |
Total | 150,164 | up 62% |
It is worth noting that BYD sales are primarily in its home market, China. Specifically, about 10,409 BYD plug-ins were exported from the total. As mentioned, BYD also sold 1,177 commercial EVs, apart from these presented results.
BYD’s January results did not match Q4 2022’s record of more than 200,000 per month. Nonetheless, it still demonstrates strong performance, given that many factors could have affected its sales to decline, such as the following:
· Chinese New Year, which weakened car sales in the country throughout the holiday period.
· Tesla’s major price cuts, which other automakers followed.
· BYD’s price hike from 2,000 to 6,000 yuan ($290-$868)
· China’s EV subsidies expiration
