Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has reportedly launched its new Dolphin EV in Australia. As part of its promotional strategy, the company now allows existing and potential customers to view the electric car personally at its Indooroopilly experience center in Brisbane.

In addition, BYD will end the program in the said location soon. Therefore, the automaker may be planning to launch the model for a roadshow across the country.

Notably, BYD Dolphin is currently the cheapest EV offering in Australia, followed by the 2023 MG 4.

BYD Dolphin to arrive in other Australian markets

Australian BYD importer EV Direct’s COO Mark Harland confirmed the speculations that the automaker would run a roadshow for the Dolphin EV in the country. He further boasted that the affordable BYD model has been garnering local customers’ attention since its arrival.

“We now have some early production Dolphins for display (only) in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth (en route) that are generating lots of interest.”

COO Harland also elaborated that the model particularly attracted the interest of lease companies owing to its affordability.

“[We are] getting lots of requests for info (on Dolphin) from novated lease companies because of the compelling price point.”

BYD Dolphin receives positive feedback

The first customers to view the new BYD Dolphin EV in Indooroopilly shared positive feedback regarding their experience.

“I have just been to Indooroopilly to see the Dolphin and I absolutely love it! Can’t wait until mine gets delivered 💕.”

Another interested customer also asserted that people surged around the facility to check the Dolphin EV.

The significant customer interest in BYD Dolphin is unsurprising, given its affordable pricing and innovative technologies.

To be specific, its base price is only $38,890, excluding on-road costs. It may further drop by $6,000 if Queensland’s EV subsidy is applied.

NEWS: The #EV price war in Australia is on. The $38,890 BYD Dolphin has sensationally undercut the MG4—which became the cheapest new electric car just 2 days ago! $100 separates the pair + MG has no plan to retake the mantle, at least not yet. Full Dolphin specs tonight! pic.twitter.com/N6mhUSKDsq

BYD aims to begin the Dolphin’s customer delivery in “Sep/Oct 2023.” That said, it seems that the new model will have a substantial supply to meet demand before the year ends.

Launching such affordable EVs will undoubtedly aid BYD in raising its sales and delivery figures. It can also attract more customers to consider the shift to more sustainable mobility.
