BYD’s expansion plans in Japan
By the end of 2023, BYD Auto Japan intends to release two further electric vehicle models. By the end of 2025, it also plans to open over 100 dealerships in Japan.
BYD Auto Japan’s CEO, Atsuki Tofukuji, stated that it intends to open tentative retailers in 22 cities starting in late January, but it is eager to expand to all 47 prefectures.
“We hope that we can make our presence felt little by little as we work toward carbon neutrality and as our customers demand a variety of choices.”

Japan lags in electric vehicle adoption compared to its neighboring countries. That said, expansion efforts from foreign automakers would significantly encourage Japanese people to switch from conventional vehicles to greener BEVs.
