German legacy automaker BMW is gearing up to launch six new electric vehicle models that will ride on its innovative Neue Klasse (New Class) architecture by 2030. According to Automotive News, the first two models will arrive as a crossover and a sedan.

BMW to introduce iX3 EV in 2025

According to the report, BMW will call the first Neue Klasse-based electric vehicle “iX3,” with a current codename “NA5.” Its size is apparently close to the current-gen traditional X3 vehicle in the US market.

Considering that BMW is already selling an iX3-badged model in some markets, the brand will likely have the new Neue Klasse-based iX3 to replace it.

The BMW iX3 has come a long way from the petrol guzzling BMW X3, originally released in 2003! We can't believe how much has changed! 🤯

Excitingly, BMW plans to officially introduce the new iX3 in late 2025. The German automaker will produce it in its new Hungary factory, while an extended-wheelbase variant (NA6) will undergo production in China.

What’s more to expect?

BMW’s next Neue Klasse-based electric vehicle goes by the codename NA0. This electric sedan will reportedly be similar in size to the 3 Series vehicle. It will undergo production at the company’s Munich factory in 2026.

A coupe-like sedan will follow and debut in 2026. The company gave it the codename “NA7. It will reportedly arrive as the iX4, followed by its station wagon variant in 2027.

The sixth model that will ride on the Neue Klasse platform will be the “NB5,” which will succeed the currently available iX1 compact crossover.

About the Neue Klasse architecture

BMW designed the new Neue Klasse architecture from scratch as it aims to catch up in the battery-electric vehicle segment.

It integrates batteries into the vehicle’s structures rather than putting them on a plate above the floor.

In addition, it offers higher operating voltage compared to the company’s current platform. Its 800-volt modular battery packs apparently enable faster charging speeds of up to 270 kilowatts.

#CEOZipse: “Proven strengths, future-oriented technologies and the NEUE KLASSE — that is our recipe for success in the coming years.”

BMW’s Neue Klasse signifies the biggest investment to date, as the new architecture is expected to underpin the brand’s entire lineup. It will be exciting to see how BMW will gradually launch the six highly-awaited models. Nonetheless, these upcoming Neue Klasse-based EVs will surely attract many customers toward the legacy brand that now aims to bet in the rapidly growing electric vehicle industry.
