Prior to the initial delivery schedule, BMW has begun series production of the iX1 electric SUV at its Regensburg facility, according to InsideEVs. That said, all of the BMW plants in Germany are now capable of building electric vehicles, as the German automaker has promised.
“The electrification and transformation of the plant gives me optimism for the future. Our aim now – also with the new BMW iX1 – is to continue to impress customers all over the world with cars made in Regensburg,” Head of the BMW Group Plant Regensburg Carsten Regent stated.
iX1 technical data
In hindsight, the all-electric crossover was first unveiled in May with an eye toward the European and Chinese markets. It is also worth noting that the xDrive 30 is the sole variation currently offered in the market.
The German automaker claims that the iX1 can travel up to 272 miles on a single charge (WLTP) and is powered by a 66.5 kWh battery pack. It is reasonably fast compared to an ICE X1, with an acceleration time of 0-62 mph in just 5.7 seconds, whereas its top speed is 180kmph.
Meanwhile, the overall power output is 313 horsepower. As for replenishing, the iX1 can charge at up to 127 kW of speed only.
Pricing
In Germany, the new BMW iX1 costs €55,000 or around $56,990. Oddly, BMW apparently has no plans yet to sell it in North America despite the US and Canada’s tremendous demand for electric crossovers.
“We are delivering the goods. By 2024, at least one in three BMWs coming out of our Bavarian plants will be an electric car,” says Board Member for Production Milan Nedeljković.
