American nonprofit organization Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) bestowed its Top Safety Pick+ award to Audi’s four all-electric SUVs, which are as follows:
The Q8 E-Tron models are apparently revamped versions of the E-Tron SUV and Sportback that also received Top Safety Pick+ ratings as 2023 models.
Meanwhile, the 2023 Audi Q5 and Q5 Sportback earned the mid-grade Top Safety Pick award. The non-electric 2023 Audi Q8 also received the Top Safety Pick+ award. Overall, seven of Audi’s vehicle models gained safety awards from IIHS.
Criteria
IIHS requires the vehicles to have Good ratings on the following tests to qualify for either the 2023 IIHS award:
- driver-side small overlap front tests
- passenger-side small overlap front tests
- original moderate overlap front tests
Notably, they must also feature average or good headlights on all trims.
For the Top Safety Pick award, the vehicles must demonstrate the following ratings in different tets:
- Acceptable or Good rating in the new side test
- Advanced or Superior rating in front crash prevention system in daytime vehicle-to-pedestrian tests
As for the Top Safety Pick+ award, they must receive the following ratings:
- Good rating in the new side test
- Advanced/Superior ratings in the daytime and nighttime pedestrian tests
Therefore, the four Audi e-SUVs met all the “plus” criteria. The Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron feature front crash prevention systems as standard with Advanced ratings in daytime and nighttime pedestrian tests.
Meanwhile, the Q8 e-tron and Q8 Sportback e-tron’s standard crash avoidance systems obtained Superior ratings in daytime tests and advanced ratings in nighttime tests.
On the other hand, the Q5 and Q5 Sportback got Acceptable ratings in the new side test and no ratings in the nighttime pedestrian test.

Audi’s Q8 model lineup boasts all the good features of its predecessors E-Tron SUV and Sportback family. However, it has a higher driving range of about 300 miles, as estimated by the automaker.
In addition, the Q4 lineup offers practicality with its lower prices compared to other luxury EVs in the market. It rides on Volkswagen’s MEB platform.
