The iconic Audi RS6 sedan will officially return in 2025 as the all-electric RS6 e-tron, 13 years after the German automaker ceased its production. Since then, Audi has only been selling the RS6 in the Avant variant.
Notably, Audi officially discontinued the RS6 sedan’s production in 2010 to prevent overthrowing the RS7 sedan during that time.
Apart from the RS6 e-tron saloon, Audi will also launch an all-electric version of the Avant.
RS6 E-tron saloon and RS6 E-tron Avant
The new all-electric RS6 e-tron saloon has already been undergoing testing, considering that its market launch is in 2025.
Meanwhile, autoevolution suggests that the A6 e-tron and Avant performance versions will debut in 2024. Audi aims to equip them with a new powertrain it co-developed with Porsche. Apparently, they will feature a dual-motor configuration like the Taycan.
They will also be more potent than their traditional vehicle predecessors, with up to 600 bhp and 738 lb-ft of torque. It will be supported by a two-speed gearbox on all motors and an electric quattro FWD.
They will utilize Volkswagen Group’s new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture that boasts a silicon-carbide inverter and supports an 800V electric output.
Excitingly, the company’s Sport unit plans to launch the RS6 GT Avant. It features a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 that generates a total output of 30 hp (30 PS) and 37 lb-ft (50 Nm) of torque.
In hindsight, Audi introduced the A6 e-tron’s concept version in 2021. It claimed the EV would have a WLTP range of 435 miles and a 270kW fast charging capability.
