2022 was indeed a good year for the premium German automaker because of the doubled increase in their electric vehicle sales compared to 2021 despite initially suffering the consequences of lagging in their electrification lineup, Teslarati reported.

Additionally, according to Teslarati, every brand owned by the German auto group currently offers an electric version. At some point, the electric model is driving sales for the brand.

“Our strong product lineup is the best response to a challenging environment – and enabled us to more than double our sales of fully-electric vehicles again in 2022. We are confident we can build on this success in 2023 as we continue to see particularly high order intake for our fully-electric models.”

Pieter Nota, a member of the Board of Management of BMW

BMW sales growth

BMW Group EV sales increased by 107.7% to 215,775 units globally, despite its overall sales declining by 4.8% to 2.4 million vehicles.

Electric models from the BMW and MINI brands, including the BMW i4, BMW iX, and MINI SE electric hatchback, primarily drove EV sales.

The results of the increase made BMW raise its expectation this 2023, anticipating 15% of sales of fully electric cars.

BMW claims they are still the world’s largest “luxury automaker” by sales thanks to a strong 10.6% sales rise in Q4 22′ than in Q4 21′.

.@BMWGroup says Q4 vehicle sales for core @BMW brand grow 11%, helping to breach the 2.1 million unit mark for the full year. That is however not enough to prevent a 5.1% annual decline in volumes.

BMW’s successful model: Mini SE electric hatchback

The MINI SE electric hatchback contributed to the company’s increased sales because, according to Teslarati, the company’s press release stated that the MINI electric was the “best-selling MINI model variant.”

· Sold 43,774 MINI SEs globally

· Contributed over a 25% growth in sales compared to 2021

· Was momentarily the least expensive EV in the United States with tax incentives

BMW announcements: New EV models and technology

In addition to announcing its sale, BMW also revealed the following:

· The BMW i5, an electric version of the legendary five series. The automaker announced that it would debut later this year.

· A new infotainment and heads-up display technology were also unveiled at CES 2023.

· The Rolls Royce Spectre, BMW’s Rolls Royce ultra-luxury brand’s first all-electric model, will also be coming later this year.

Ultimately, BMW is reviving at a rate that exceeds expectations and that people should look out for their brand. The report added that the next BMW i5 will certainly be a showpiece and might continue to redefine the sports sedan, as it has for many years.

Teslarati suggested that BMW must now follow through on its announcements, like so many other brands, given that the bar has been raised as rivals like Mercedes electrify their vehicles quickly.
