An electric counterpart of the vintage Chevrolet 3100 is being developed by Kindred Motorworks, as reported by Hot Cars.
Those unfamiliar with it should know that it is a half-ton truck that was one of the most popular pickups in the US from 1947 to 1953.
Chevrolet 3100 electric version details
Pre-orders are now being accepted at an MSRP of $159,000 by the California-based EV outfitter. Furthermore, it anticipates delivering clients in 2024.
Kindred’s founder Rob Howard claims that the planned car is entirely 21st century on the inside, outside, and underneath.
“It represents balance — a beautiful design that’s fun and easy to own and drive, but that isn’t afraid to do a little dirty work as well,” he said.
For reference, Chevrolet 3100 original collector’s editions currently go for between $30,000 and $100,000.
Performance-wise, the electric Chevy can go 200 miles on a single charge while being propelled by its rear wheels. With a Level 2 charger, a full charge takes nine hours. Remarkably, it also offers a 294 horsepower.
It also has 17-inch wheels connected by a double wishbone suspension. Along with electric power steering, rack and pinion steering and power disc brakes are on all four wheels.
The inside is equipped with contemporary luxuries like air conditioning, a touchscreen media display, heated bench seats, and cupholders.
According to Kindred’s spec sheet, the truck bed is built to be used as intended, and the exterior lighting is LED. Additionally, it incorporates modular tie-downs, marine-grade waterproof flooring, and a push-button tailgate with hidden linkages.
Meanwhile, the running boards and the bed’s interior have textured surfaces that match the color of the vehicle.
Kindred’s other projects
According to Howard, the following restoration projects are in the works:
– a Volkswagen bus from the 1960s
– quirky Bronco powered by gas or electricity
– a 1969 Camaro powered by a 6.2L GM supercharged V8 with 700 horsepower
– manual six-speed transmission
Remarkably, Kindred is the first firm to widely commercialize vintage car electric vehicle conversions. Starting with a VW Microbus, a vintage Camaro, and a Bronco, Kindred transforms classic cars into contemporary electric and fuel-efficient kings of the road.
