We’re launching two new EVs in Europe on February 3, 2023. Stay tuned for more details

XPeng stated on launching its two new EVs in Europe

This statement confirms an earlier report from Auto Time, which stated on January 18 that XPeng would release two models for international markets in 2023 and a third in 2024.

XPeng entered the European market sincerely early last year and has made many moves.

On February 10, 2022, the company posted a chart on Twitter demonstrating that from 2015 to 2021, China and Europe led the global electric vehicle market growth, with an annual average growth rate of 68 percent in China and 55 percent in Europe.

XPeng stated on international expansion

XPeng partnered with Netherlands and Sweden

XPeng announced a few hours later that it had achieved retail collaboration agreements in the Netherlands and Sweden and would launch its first self-operated experience store in Sweden within a week, marking its first in an international market.

On March 10, XPeng opened reservations for the P5 sedan, the company’s third production vehicle, in Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden.

XPeng recently sold the G3 series SUV and the P7 sedan in Norway, but this is the first time the P5 has been exported.

At the same time, XPeng announced unveiling its first local experience store in the Netherlands, the second XPeng-branded shop in Europe.

XPeng revealed on March 14 that it had become an associate of three major European automotive organizations, making it the first Chinese brand to do so. The three organizations are the European Association for Electromobility (AVERE), the Netherlands Automobile Industry Association (RAI Vereniging), and BIL Sweden.

XPeng’s commitment to Europe’s electrification

The move represents XPeng’s prior commitment to accelerating Europe’s electrification and complying with a sustainable strategy, as well as an essential milestone in the company’s commitment to tighter integration with the European automotive ecosystem, according to the company at the time.

On April 21, XPeng revealed pre-order costs for the P5 in Europe and the official opening of its third firsthand experience store in Denmark on April 9.

However, following these efforts, XPeng slowed its expansion in Europe.

LatePost, a local Chinese tech media outlet, confirmed on May 26 that sales and orders for the XPeng G3, P7, and P5 in Europe have been disappointing, and the company’s overseas expansion has been halted.

Delayed overseas exportation

According to the report, He Liyang, who joined XPeng in early 2021 to lead the company’s overseas markets, has left. Jin Bin, vice president of human resources, has taken over his responsibilities.

As per LatePost, Zhang Yibo, a part of He’s team and vice president of marketing for business overseas, and Zhang Chuanjin, previously XPeng’s general manager and senior director of sales for the northern region, also left.

XPeng announced on June 22 that it had canceled all P5 reservations and pre-orders in the four European countries and would transition its focus to the P7 sedan due to foreseeable export schedule issues.

There was no more news about XPeng’s moves in Europe after that, and the company began to experience a delivery downturn in China that lasted a few months.
