Chinese automaker XPeng proudly announced on Twitter that its all-new G6 electric SUV got over 25,000 preorders within just 72 hours of launching at its local showrooms.
This achievement is undoubtedly a positive sign for the automaker, which has high hopes for its newest electric model. Notably, the G6 is set to rival the Tesla Model Y in the world’s largest auto market – China.
XPeng G6 progress in the Chinese market
In hindsight, XPeng initially introduced its G6 model at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2023.
The Chinese EV startup immediately proceeded with the G6’s production in May, with the first models leaving the production lines by the end of the same month. Notably, it is only slightly ahead of the scheduled presales launch on June 9.
XPeng will officially launch the model on June 29, with deliveries starting in July.
About the XPeng G6
Notably, the XPeng G6 is the first production model to use the company’s next-gen SEPA 2.0 platform architecture, which introduces new performance features such as charging time and range boost.
XPeng G6 boasts 3C battery cells, enabling a CLTC-estimated driving range of 755 km. It also has a fast-charging capacity owing to its 800v high-voltage platform. Remarkably, the EV can generate a 300 km range within just 10 minutes of DC fast charging.
However, XPeng has yet to disclose the final configurations of the G6 e-SUV and their pricing by the end of this month.
Nonetheless, the presale prices start at RMB 225,000 ($31,510), substantially lower than the Tesla Model Y’s RMB 263,900 in China.
CnEVPost reported that XPeng G6 reservation holders who paid RMB 2,000 would secure an RMB 5,000 discount when purchasing the car.
