XPeng’s flying car unit XPeng Aeroht will soon mass produce its flying cars in a new factory it plans to build in Guangzhou, China.
XPeng Aeroht partners with Guangzhou government for a new factory
According to Chinese media Gasgoo, XPeng Aeroht officially signed the cooperation agreement with the Guangzhou Development District during the Conference on High-quality Development of Low Altitude Economy in Guangdong Province on July 4, 2024.
The partnership seeks to support XPeng Aeroht’s planned flying car mass production in the city, particularly regarding land use, financing, and application scenarios.
Xpeng Aeroht to produce modular flying cars in Guangzhou
According to the report, Xpeng Aeroht aims to build a research and development, manufacturing, and sales center for its flying cars in the Guangzhou Development District.
Xpeng Aeroht plans to leverage the new facility for product testing, production, sales, and operations.
Notably, the planned manufacturing hub is set to become the world’s first flying car factory to employ a modern assembly line for large-scale mass production. In addition, it will also be the first factory of its kind to manufacture the flying body portion of Xpeng Aeroht’s modular flying car – Land Aircraft Carrier.
The Land Aircraft Carrier
If Xpeng Aeroht’s plans succeed, the Land Aircraft Carrier will advance as the world’s first modular flying to achieve mass production and delivery to individual users.
Xpeng Aeroht developed the Land Aircraft Carrier to navigate both the roads and the skies. In land mode, the flight components like rotors and arms seamlessly fit within the vehicle body. The system deploys these components when ready to take flight, allowing for vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) in designated areas.
The flying car also comes with a foldable steering wheel, a transparent instrument panel, and a cockpit with a transparent floor. Its intelligent cockpit can also seamlessly switch between land mode and flight mode.
Notably, Xpeng Aeroht’s Land Aircraft Carrier contains two key parts: the land vehicle and the flight module. The flight module tucks away neatly inside the car for driving on roads. The system releases the flight module for takeoff. These two parts can automatically separate and merge like a “Transformer.”
The land vehicle supports 6×6 all-wheel drive and rear-wheel steering for extra grip and seats for up to 5 people in land mode. As for the power, it utilizes a range-extending electric drive system.
As for the flight mode, it employs distributed electric propulsion, enabling both manual and automatic driving modes. It is capable of carrying only 2 people.
Xpeng Aeroht aims to open pre-sales of its Land Aircraft Carrier modular flying car at the Auto Guangzhou 2024 in Q4 2024.
