Volkswagen-owned brand Scout Motors astounded the electric vehicle space as it apparently hired a renowned Stellantis designer to oversee the company’s rugged, all-purpose e-truck and SUV development.

It is worth noting that Chris Benjamin designed the newest Jeep and Ram models’ interiors, indicating his skills and expertise in this segment.

So what?

Scout Motors stated that Chris Benjamin would be the brand’s new Chief Design Officer, even calling him “the steward of the iconic Scout design.”

Benjamin’s role will revolve around the following:

  • Interior and exterior design
  • User experience
  • Concept development
  • Overall integration of design and technology

With his help, Scout Motor will be able to hasten the development of the new all-purpose e-truck and SUV, which will undergo production before 2027 starts.

“Chris’ work is prolific. For nearly 25 years he’s brought to life vehicles that stand out on the road.

His thumbprints are all over many of the most beloved off-road vehicles in the market today. I’m confident that Chris will build on that experience as he defines the next chapter of design for Scout and electric utility vehicles.”

Scout Motors CEO & President Scott Keogh

Indeed, Benjamin is a reputable car designer, recently leading the interior design of famous brands, including Jeep, Wagoneer, Chrysler, RAM, and Dodge. Soon after, he advanced to Stellantis’ interior design VP in July 2022. All that said, his entry to Scout Motor, a newcomer in the EV industry, will undoubtedly lead the company towards beautiful products that could compete in the highly competitive market.

“I’ve been fortunate in my career to shape many off-road focused products that appeal to a broad range of Americans. Classic Scout vehicles have always exerted a magnetic pull on me. They created the archetype for the modern SUV in the ’60s and proved that a daily driver could also be a weekend adventurer. My task now is to balance the iconic design language of the past with all of the innovative possibilities that electrification unlocks. With the base of inspiration that Scout offers, what we’re dreaming up will be beyond special.”
