Australian freight giant Team Global Express announced on December 6 that it had ordered 36 electric trucks from the Swedish automaker Volvo, as reported by Teslarati. The Volvo FL Electric is aimed to be added to the company’s pick-up and delivery fleet next year.
“It’s clear that more and more transport companies around the world now want to start the journey towards electric, zero-emission transports. Volvo is first out with heavy electric trucks in Australia, and we are excited to work together with Team Global Express and other customers. We have the broadest electric truck line up in the industry, which makes it possible to electrify a large part of heavy transports already today.”
Martin Merrick, Volvo Group Australia’s President
Delivery Schedule
In the first quarter of 2023, Sydney will begin receiving 36 battery-powered Volvo FL Electric units. It boasts a load capacity of 5.5 tonnes, which is expected to perform well in Team Global Express’ pick-up and delivery operations.

Australia’s transportation sector currently accounts for 19% of its carbon emissions. Notably, 38% of that share is contributed by road freight. In an effort to achieve the country’s net-zero emissions target by 2050, many Australian businesses are now encouraged to switch to sustainable options.
Meanwhile, Volvo intends for electric trucks to account for 50% of its total new truck sales worldwide by 2030. Both businesses will benefit from this collaboration as they work toward accomplishing their separate goals.
