The ID. Aero design study previewed the VW ID.7 electric sedan, which made its debut in disguise at the Consumer Electronics Show in June 2022 in China rather than Germany. The Germany-based automaker claims that the zero-emission sedan will be offered on three continents, as reported by Auto Evolution.

The VW ID.7

Paintwork

The prototype is headed to Las Vegas. Moreover, it is decked out in an impressive paint job that will interactively illuminate the ID. 7.

There are 40 layers, some of which have conductive properties, while the majority have insulating ones. The all-electric car has electrification under its paint in no lesser than 22 places. The prototype’s individually illuminated regions show the rhythm when it is attached to a sound system.

Driving Range

According to the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure, Volkswagen claims that the driving range of its European versions is approximately 700 kilometers (435 miles). Expect the US-spec ID.7 to be rated slightly worse because the Environmental Protection Agency has better testing methods than the European Union.

American customer delivery

A near-production spec is another name for the CES 2023 prototype. The headline implies that the full reveal will occur in the second quarter of 2023, which means American customers will receive the new ID.7 in the 2024 model year.

Features

The debut of the MEB modular electric drive matrix-based first sedan also heralds the German automaker’s six-year absence from the Consumer Electronics Show. Volkswagen claims that it considered customer feedback when creating the ID.7.

The new display design, augmented reality head-up display, 15-inch intelligent play infotainment system, digital control air vents, and illuminated touch sliders are customer feedback results.

Nobody in their right mind would choose illuminated touch sliders and digital control air vents over physical controls. It’s more likely that Volkswagen came up with those two innovations than that it listened to ID.3, ID.4, or ID.5 customers. Aside from adding pointless complexity to an already complex vehicle, physical air vents and switchgear function better than their digital counterparts due to a phenomenon known as muscle memory. Operating an air vent or climate control while keeping your eyes on the road is risky.

The advantages should be emphasized. For instance, the ID.7 can automatically turn on the climate control as the driver approaches the vehicle while still holding the key in their pocket. Smart Air Vents adaptively reposition themselves to spread air over large areas quickly. Air can also be directed directly to the driver’s body in the ID.7 all-electric sedan.

VW ID. Series

Volkswagen expects the ID.7 to bring its ID. Series of electric vehicles into the high end of the mass market. The ID. series will have six nameplates in total, with the full release of the ID.7 in the second quarter of 2023, counting the China-exclusive ID.6 and the ID. Buzz. The ID.7 will initially be made in Germany’s Emden facility, making the ID.4 compact crossover.

Although Volkswagen has yet to confirm where the ID.7 will be manufactured in North America and China, the company did establish both markets. The newcomer, which has a 116.9-inch (2,969-millimeter) rear suspension, might be produced in Chattanooga, Tennessee, for the American market, as well as Anting or Foshan for the Chinese market.
