German legacy automaker Volkswagen officially debuted the all-electric sports limousine ID.X Performance concept car at the ID. Treffen in Locarno, Switzerland from September 8 to 9, according to the press release.
“Presenting the ID.X Performance in front of ID. enthusiasts from across Europe gives us the chance to meet members of the ID. Drivers Club in person. Andreas Reckewerth and his team of engineers have maximised the potential of the MEB in this vehicle, combining sporty performance with the elegant lines of a limousine. In addition to our emotive show car, we will also showcase a range of production models such as the ID.702, for which pre-sales started in Germany just a few days ago.”
Maria Soni Reissfelder, Head of Marketing & Sales Volkswagen ID. Family
Exterior
The new Volkswagen ID.X Performance offers new design features, “combining sporty performance with the elegant lines of a limousine.”
It has undergone a major upgrade on its front-end features, including a bigger black grille at the bumper’s bottom. It also has similar vents at each corner, InsideEVs emphasized.
The concept car also showed a carbon fiber diffuser and a GTI-style continuous red trim cover. The wheel wells are also covered in black plastic, featuring a set of 20″ sport alloy wheels with racing rubber.
Meanwhile, the rear end of the ID.X has a large spoiler on top of the trunk lid. It also features a carbon fiber diffuser at the bottom of the bumper. The model also has a similar red trim across its body’s front, sides, and rear.
The VW ID.X is notably sitting lower than the existing ID. 7 model by 2.4 inches (60 mm), Motor Illustrated indicated. The company’s engineering team also included stiff springs to improve handling and agility.
Interior
The ID.X’s steering wheel, dash, and doors feature red accents to enhance its overall attractiveness. It also offers carbon bucket seats.
In addition, the steering wheel sports the company’s iconic logo with control buttons on each side. It also features a large touchscreen display at the center of the dashboard.
Technical details
Like all its latest EV models, Volkswagen equipped the new ID.X with its popular MEB architecture.
The VW ID.X features two electric motors that generate a maximum output of 550 horsepower (411 kilowatts).
Moreover, it also supports DC fast chargers with up to 200 kilowatts capacity.
“The MEB offers many fantastic possibilities for approaching vehicle development with a great deal of creativity. It was clear to us that we wanted to base our new show car on the ID.7 and that we would focus on enhancing the performance. In this way we can show what is possible.”
Andreas Reckewerth, Head of Technology Office MEB
