In 2022, Volkswagen Group had placed more than one-third of the 45,000 EV chargers it plans to install by 2025, equating to approximately 15,000 EV chargers with charging capacities of up to 350 kW.

Geographically, the total of 45,000 EV charging stations will be divided as follows: 10,000 in North America, 18,000 in Europe, and 17,000 in China.

VW expects to have 10,000 EV chargers – or “high-power charging points” in corporate speak – online in Europe by the end of 2023, with 25,000 available worldwide by 2023.

Volkswagen and EA to hit 10,000 chargers

Electrify America (EA) controls the Volkswagen Group’s electric facilities in the United States. According to EA’s website, it reportedly has 3,551 fast and Level 2 EV chargers online, with 90 more “coming soon.” So VW and EA will have to work hard to meet their North American goal of 10,000.

IONITY, a joint venture between Audi, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, and Porsche, is installing EV chargers in Europe.

Volkswagen launched Ewiva

Last year, the VW Group launched Ewiva with the Enel X Way in Italy to install EV chargers. It plans to install approximately 8,000 of the 10,000 European chargers with BP and Iberdrola. The latter will concentrate on Spain’s major traffic arteries.
