European testing organization Euro NCAP releases its latest vehicle safety test results. With the new Amarok and the ID. Buzz, two models from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles with entirely different technical designs were rated ‘Very good’, and each received the top ranking: ‘5 Stars’, as per Automotive World.
Notably, the new ID. Buzz has won numerous prizes and awards within just weeks of its launch. And now, another award joins the line: five stars for vehicle safety as given by Euro NCAP.
This equals to an outstanding overall score for collision and occupant protection and is a sign of good vehicle features with practical and extensive accident avoidance technology.
Volkswagen ID. Buzz
The ID. Buzz comes as a standard with driver, center, and side airbags in the cockpit, front-seat passenger, plus curtain airbags.
Scoring 92% of the maximum possible rating points for occupant protection, the electric MPV got an excellent result due to the airbags’ combination with the appropriately rolled-out vehicle body structure.
Volkswagen Amarok
The new Amarok received a similar high point total in the crash tests as the ID. Buzz. The new pick-up from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, which does not launch in Germany until early 2023, also achieved ‘5 Stars’ by the Euro NCAP testing organization.
Similar to the case of the ID. Buzz, it was also the combination of a vehicle body structure with emergency braking systems and a multitude of modern assistance that led to this award.
Moreover, the pick-up even has knee airbags. The excellent scores for the side and front crash tests with the new Amarok were reached in combination with the VW-specific child seats.
Top score for accident avoidance category
Additionally, Euro NCAP gave a top score for accident avoidance. At the driver’s disposal in the ID. Buzz and the new Amarok are multiple standard specifications and/or optional assistance and emergency braking systems, impressing the testers similarly.
Safety Assist category
Meanwhile, they helped the vehicles to reach 90% (ID. Buzz) and 84% (Amarok) of the possible ranking points in the ‘safety assist’ category.
ID. Buzz Pro electric power consumption (combined) in kWh per 100 km: 21.7 – 20.6.
CO2 emissions (combined) in g/km: 0. The consumption and emission figures only available for the vehicle are based on the WLTP, not NEDC.
