Volkswagen ID.7 expands the VW ID lineup
The VW ID.7 currently represents the company’s biggest EV offering. It is also the second global model to use the MEB platform after the popular ID.4.
It is the 6th EV model to join Volkwagen’s ID portfolio, following the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, China-exclusive ID.6, and the ID.Buzz e-van.
Volkswagen Passenger Cars CEO praised the Emden factory and its workers for the significant milestone.
“The ID.7 is a top car from a top team. A big compliment to all our colleagues in Emden who have been so active in making the start of production a full success. Thanks everyone for your commitment!”

VW ID.7 key details
Volkswagen plans to launch the new VW ID.7 along with other 9 models between 2023 and 2026. Moreover, it aims to offer a base model for the ID.7 for sub-25,000 euros ($27,000).
Volkswagen initially introduced the new EV at the 2023 CES in January. Meanwhile, its official reveal occurred in April.
Notably, the company will first introduce the ID. 7’s Pro variant. It will feature a 77 kWh battery that supports a driving range of up to 382 miles.
The Pro S variant will follow with an 86 kWh battery and a driving range of up to 435 miles between chargers.
However, the ID.7 variants’ EPA-estimated range will drop in the US. Nonetheless, they are still expected to generate mid or higher than 300 miles.
Interestingly, VW claims its limousine EV is ideal for long road trips. It also has a huge and relaxing cabin with advanced features.
“The ID.7 combines long ranges, fast charging, spacious interior and intuitive operation. It is one of ten new electric models that we will launch from 2023 to 2026.”

The VW ID.7 is apparently the ID lineup’s most aerodynamic offering to date owing to the following elements:
- a low front end
- a coupe-like roof
- a flowing transition to the bonnet
- a tapering rear end
- nearly closed underbody
- new wheel spoilers
- side air curtains managing air with minimum energy loss
Volkswagen expects to launch the new VW ID.7 in Europe this fall and North America by the following year.
It is also worth noting that the company’s investment in electrifying the Emden factory reached over one billion euro. It currently employs approximately 8,000 individuals.
“The Emden plant is building the model exclusively for the European and North American markets. Since 2019, the site has been converted and made fit for e-mobility.
Investment: more than one billion euros. Around 8,000 people are employed at the VW plant in Emden.”
