Over the last 18 months, the network’s size has doubled by adding around 200,000 new charging points. Recently, Elli expanded its network in northern and western Europe by adding the Dutch fast-charging specialist Fastned and the Swedish energy company Vattenfall, Volkswagen noted in a press release.

The charging network of Volkswagen’s subsidiary Elli is expanding. In the process, the company entered into many partnerships and alliances, including ones with energy suppliers Enel and Iberdrola, the joint venture IONITY, and the petroleum group BP.

The work aims to offer EV drivers a tightly knit international charging network that is easily accessible. Currently, there are around 800 providers integrated.

In addition, Elli recently added around 24,000 Vattenfall stations in Germany, Norway, Sweden, and the Netherlands, alongside 1,000 high-power charging points (HPC) operated by Fastned in Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

Several months earlier, the network was significantly expanded in Great Britain with the addition of 6,800 charging stations managed by BP Pulse.

The key to everyday electric mobility is easy charging without any range anxiety. We have taken a huge step closer to our vision by offering 400,000 charging points in Europe. In line with our NEW AUTO strategy, we now offer the largest ecosystem for drivers of electric vehicles in Europe and are continuing to press full speed ahead in our work to expand the charging network.

Elke Temme, the CEO of Elli and Senior Vice President of Charging & Energy at Volkswagen AG

As a mobility service provider, Elli provides its services to electric vehicle drivers made by all manufacturers.

Consumers of Elli and those of the brands CUPRA, ŠKODA AUTO, Volkswagen, and SEAT may use the network further on that. The charging service provided by AUDI will be incorporated into the portfolio in 2023: Charging with Audi | Audi MediaCenter.

Charging and energy are a promising business areas for Volkswagen

Notably, VW has made charging and energy a part of its core business in its NEW AUTO strategy.

With some 250-employee workforce, Elli takes care of the things that matter to consumers at the touchpoints between mobility and energy.

Elli is the Volkswagen Group brand that provides a broad portfolio of charging and energy solutions in Europe. It also acts as a mobile services provider. Its range of products currently includes charging solutions for private consumers and companies, from the consumers’ wall boxes and the mobile charging station Flexpole to charging services and innovative and smart green-power rates.

In addition, Elli provides digital solutions and services designed to make seamless experiences at public charging stations.

EVs can be easily charged with the help of an app and a charging map. Three charging rates are provided: “Drive Free,” “Drive City,” and “Drive Highway.”

The rates are geared toward drivers who need to charge their vehicles frequently, quickly, or rarely. Elli was founded in 2018 and had offices in Berlin, Wolfsburg and Munich.
