  • The initiative marks VinFast's aggressive push into the competitive EV landscape.

Vietnamese electric automaker VinFast disclosed that it has already received applications from 70 dealers in the US since it transitioned to a mixed sales model from its previous direct sales strategy. VinFast boosts its distribution network in the US

WRAL TechWire noted that VinFast’s expansion plans continue to progress with its new Indonesian factory and potential Indian facility with 50 markets in mind. Apart from these, the Vietnamese automaker is also developing its US factory in Chatham County, Georgia.

Now, it plans to expand its electric vehicle distribution network in the US market. VinFast’s “Find Us” website currently displays some dealer showrooms and service hubs in California and charging sites across Texas and Kansas.

“Updates on dealer agreements are expected to be announced in the coming months, which should allow VinFast to start distributing its EVs through 125 points of sales nationwide.”

Portfolio expansion plans

In hindsight, VinFast initially commenced its US operation with its VF 8 electric crossover in early 2023 through its direct sales model in the state of California.

Now, the company plans to begin selling the VF 8 through the new distribution network, with plans to launch the VF 6, VF 7, and VF 9 models in the future. It is also worth noting that the company currently operates 13 EV showrooms there, with the majority in Southern California.

“In 2023, VinFast expects to distribute VF 8 models through its distribution network and will continue its offerings with the VF 9, VF 6 and VF 7 when these models launch in the market.”

Previous media reports also imply that VinFast aims to launch the electric minicar VF 3 in its US portfolio.

Significance

VinFast’s remarkable efforts in expanding its business on a global scale, particularly in the US, is a major boost in the wider shift to electric vehicles.

The electric automaker’s aftersales policies also demonstrate its goal to make EV models more affordable for a wider range of customers.

The EV Report asserted that the company’s Parts Distribution Centers will aid dealers in terms of providing high-quality repair and maintenance services.

“Our mission is to make EVs accessible to everyone. That is why VinFast always strives to expand its business network, and to provide consumers with premium quality electric vehicles, attainable prices, and outstanding aftersales services.”

Steve Tran, CEO of VinFast North America

VinFast expects to release updates on dealer agreements in the following months as it aims to have a nationwide distribution network with 125 locations. This US expansion aligns with the company’s wider strategy to build distribution channels in up to 50 markets across the world by the end of 2024.
