Vietnamese electric automaker VinFast will develop and produce three new electric crossover models in addition to its inaugural offering in the US, VF 8. According to Automotive News, the models in the pipeline include the subcompact VF 6, VF 7, and the large.
VF 8 sales
VinFast currently sells its all-electric SUV VF 8 in the US at its 13 showrooms in California, CNN Business reported.
For context, VF 8 offers a driving range of 264 miles between charges for a base price of $47,200, including shipping expenses.
However, the VF 8’s sales in the country endured a weak start. It only sold and delivered a few hundred units of the model through July, VinFast spokesperson revealed.
In an effort to boost sales figures in the US, VinFast is now on track to release three new models for American customers.
Upcoming models
VinFast’s planned new electric vehicles will offer US-based customers more choices from the brand. In effect, it can substantially aid the company in improving its sales and delivery performance in North America.
VF 6
VinFast VF 6 is an all-electric subcompact car that will debut as early as 2024. The entry-level trim will have a maximum output of 174 horsepower. It can also enable a driving range of 248 miles per European standard.
VinFast equipped the VF 6 with a 12.9″ center display and 17″ wheels, while higher-end trims will feature a larger 15″ screen and 19″ wheels. Notably, the company has no plans to employ major updates to this model until the decade’s end.
According to Electrive.com, VF 6 is 4.29 meters long, 1.82 meters wide, and 1.59 meters tall. Its wheelbase measures 2.73 meters.
VF 7
The VF 7 is a battery-electric model that will also launch in the US next year. VinFast will initially import it from its Vietnamese factory, with plans to begin local production by 2025.
The Eco variant will offer a maximum output of 201 horsepower. It will also feature a 75.3 kWh battery pack that generates a WLTP-estimated driving range of 280 miles.
The Plus variant will have 348 horsepower and a WLTP range of 268 miles. VinFast has yet to announce the official pricing for the model. It will also not undergo major updates until 2030.
VF 9
VinFast VF 9 is an all-electric three-row crossover. It will serve as the brand’s flagship model for its BEV portfolio. It launched in the US as early as 2023 with a base price of $84,200. The seven-seat model offers a maximum output of 402 horsepower. Its key features include standard AWD configuration, ADAS technology, and imitation leather seats.
It will be equipped with a 123 kWh battery pack that can generate an EPA driving range of 330 miles per charge for the Eco trim. Meanwhile, the Plus trim will have an EPA-estimated driving range of 291 miles.
VinFast claims the model’s battery can charge from 10% to 70% in just 35 minutes in ideal conditions. Likewise, it will also have no major updates until the end of the decade.
” VinFast always strives to bring diverse vehicle options to meet the demands of most customers while pushing the transition from ICE to all-electric vehicles. I believe that these models will resonate well with young customers who are passionate about technology and exhilarating driving experiences.”
