Tesla‘s Sentry Mode function recently received an update that limits camera-based detection, according to Teslarati. As per the report, it made it more effective at detecting car break-ins.
For those unaware, Sentry Mode records occurrences using the eight exterior cameras in Tesla vehicles. It is a remarkable feature as it has been preventing theft and robbery attempts. The function does have certain drawbacks, though.
Flaws on the outdated Sentry Mode
The scope of Sentry Mode’s camera is broader than needed. Therefore, persistent alerts and notifications about someone near a Tesla EV have been unfavorable to owners.
Furthermore, owners may get alerts about their car being possibly threatened almost every time someone passes by it in heavy foot traffic areas.

Tesla Sentry mode notifications: Camera-based detection
In an effort to reduce recordings and notifications, Tesla is adding the option to disable Camera-based detection with Software Update 2022.44.2. Notably, disabling this feature will simply notify owners of attempted car theft.
Not a Tesla App reported that Sentry Mode warnings would be enabled whenever the following circumstances occur:
· window break
· car door opening
· tilt sensor being triggered
“Camera-Based Detection, which allows users to disable use of cameras to detect threats.”

Tesla Sentry Mode clip length
Tesla will give users the ability to choose the duration of the clips that Sentry Mode captures. That said, Sentry Mode might record for several minutes to ensure that the entire event is documented on the footage.
With this update, Tesla owners can now regulate this duration by accessing Sentry Mode settings.
“Sentry Mode Clip Length, which allows users to specify the length of the clip when a potential threat is detected.”
