Uber updates aimed to make travel more accessible and more sustainable by featuring Electric Vehicles on its platform.
During Uber’s second annual Go/Get 2022 product event virtually streamed on Monday, Uber announced some significant updates and services for its app. Users can now request a ride in Electric cars, and it will also feature some tools that its EV drivers can use.
The service is called Uber Comfort Electric, now available in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, and Dubai. It will also be available in more cities soon. The app will let users request a ride in premium Electric cars, which feature models from Tesla and Polestar.
Last year, Uber teamed up with Hertz to make up to 50,000 fully electric Teslas available for drivers to rent by 2023, exclusively for drivers using the Uber network in the US.
“As part of Uber’s global commitment to becoming a zero-emissions mobility platform by 2040, we’re continuing to take steps to help you go electric,” Uber said.
The company also said that they aim to make every Uber ride an electric one in Europe and North America by 2030. They will also launch new features in their driver app dedicated to EVs.
An in-hub app and a one-stop-shop will also be featured in their app, where drivers can get all the information they need about electric cars. In the app, they can also compare electric vehicles with non-electric ones. It will also let drivers calculate EV incentives. Uber will also offer exclusive discounts so that they will be encouraged to switch to electric cars.
Uber will also be launching a charger map to help drivers locate the nearest charging stations. It will also show its charging speeds and help drivers navigate to get there.
Additionally, Uber also launched Uber Travel, letting users reserve rides for each leg of a long journey. It also features Uber Charter, autonomous delivery, voice ordering, and stadium deliveries. It also launched a membership program called Uber One.
