Japanese automaker Toyota, EV charger provider Elecreon Wireless, and auto component maker DENSO formed a partnership to co-develop an advanced wireless vehicle kit, per the press release.
“We are honored to partner with TOYOTA and DENSO — two of the leading and most respected companies in the global automotive industry, to provide an overall game-changing solution with Electreon’s technology.”
Oren Ezer, Electreon’s CEO, and co-founder
Indeed, it is significant progress in the EV charging industry as it offers an easier and more accessible approach.
Purpose
The partners aim to promote the wide adoption and development of wireless charging tech through the following projects:
- co-develop an aftermarket wireless kit for current EVs to use wireless charging tech today
- integration of wireless technology into new cars in the market
- collaboration to promote the standardization of wireless EV charging technology
- collaboratively promote a joint pilot project in Japan, the US, or the EU, including commercial proof of business
The companies will employ a comprehensive joint development deal for all the projects mentioned in the press release.
“This partnership will make wireless charging accessible to a diverse and wide range of drivers and will demonstrate the many benefits of wireless charging as a cost-effective clean solution for charging EVs as well as a catalyst in reducing EVs’ carbon footprint.”
Oren Ezer, Electreon’s CEO, and co-founder
What’s the big deal?
The development of wireless charging technology for Toyota EVs will undoubtedly make the charging process more convenient. It will eliminate the long process of navigating to the nearest charging station, as drivers only need to park their EV over a charging pad.
Furthermore, it would potentially revolutionize the charging infrastructures, which are usually the problems of EV drivers. In fact, Electreon CEO Ezer further aims to expand the technology deployment into the actual roads. That said, EVs may charge their batteries while driving.
