Renault CEO Luca de Meo has criticized Tesla’s price drops and the electric vehicle maker’s volatile purchase prices.
Tesla’s pricing strategy, according to the CEO, could undermine consumer trust in the worth of their electric vehicles.
Tesla’s uniqueness in the auto industry
Tesla is unique in the market, and it shows how its vehicles are enhanced over time.
It is also well-known for its volatile vehicle prices. Tesla implemented several price increases last year, and earlier this year, the company implemented price cuts across the board.
I hope that they (Tesla) continue(s) to reduce to zero, but we will continue to protect the value of our electric vehicles. This is destroying value for the customer, for sure, when you do this

Tesla to compensate their 2022 customers
The criticism that the CEO of Renault leveled at the EV manufacturer led by Elon Musk came at a time when the veteran automaker was experiencing an increase in sales of electric vehicles.
According to a report published by the Financial Times, Renault has risen to the third-largest electric vehicle brand in Europe.
The comments made by the CEO of Renault, while they might at first glance appear to be very critical of Tesla, do have some validity to them.
It is crucial to remember that after Tesla reduced the prices of its entire lineup of vehicles earlier this year, a significant number of people who owned electric vehicles and had been convinced by the company to take shipment of their cars before the end of 2022 were highly dissatisfied.
Because the owners’ feelings were so notable, an online petition was started asking Tesla to compensate its late 2022 customers.
Tesla’s 40% growth yearly
In response to a petition on Change.org, the manufacturer of electric vehicles was asked to consider offering free Supercharging miles or a free one-year subscription to FSD to owners of the cars who took delivery in late 2022.
Even though the petition was met with skepticism from people involved in the EV community, the motivation behind its creation is understandable.
After all, Tesla would not have been able to produce a total of 1,313,851 vehicles in 2022 if it were not for the late 2022 customers who placed orders with the company.
This figure represents a growth of 40% year-over-year.
