The 2023 MG 4 electric car from China has received five stars for safety by Euro NCAP (the European counterpart to Australia and New Zealand’s ANCAP) ahead of Australian showroom arrivals in 2023, as per Drive.

The result makes the MG 4 the third model from the automaker to achieve a five-star score under the latest safety test criteria, weeks before the criteria (which have been present since 2020) is phased out and replaced by even-stricter test rules from 2023.

On the other hand, ANCAP is yet to confirm a local safety rating for the MG 4 in Australia. A spokesperson told Drive that a local safety rating would be released closer to the model going on sale in Australia.

The MG 4 got scores of the following:

  • 83% for Adult Occupant Protection
  • 80% for Child Occupant Protection
  • 75% for Vulnerable Road Users
  • 78% for Safety Assist

Points were taken away for marginal protection of the driver’s chest in the frontal offset crash test, no whiplash protection in the center rear seat, and no center airbag to stop front occupants’ heads from clashing in side-impact crashes.

However, high marks were given to the child-seat crash performance, autonomous emergency braking system, and protection of occupants’ bodies in the side-impact tests.

Notably, the 2023 MG 4 is due in Australia in the first half of 2023.
