The state of Texas’ electric vehicle registrations has just exceeded the 200,000-unit threshold as of June 20, per Dallas-Fort Worth Clean Cities’ compiled data.
Texas EV adoption demonstrates “tremendous growth”
The latest data provided by Dallas-Fort Worth Clean Cities revealed that Texas now has 201,422 registered EVs as of June 20. Of that total, a whopping 36.7% is contributed by the Dallas-Fort Worth metro.
Houston landed second with a 24.07% registration share statewide. Austin followed it with a 20.1% share in the overall EV registrations in Texas.
Considering the remarkable growth, the Texas Electric Transportation Resources Alliance Director Tom Smith cannot help but say, “It’s tremendous growth.”
Director Smith stated that EV registrations in the state grew 64% year-on-year, adding over 72,000 units to the record.
According to the Director, this “tremendous growth” is largely due to the following factors:
- expanding EV options
- lower pricing
- state and federal initiatives on charging infrastructures
Director Smith further noted that charging infrastructures are heavily concentrated in Texas’ key metropolitan areas like Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin. Fortunately, the federal government is now eyeing to boost the number of fast chargers in the Lone Star State and the entire country.
For instance, the White House announced plans to boost the country’s charging network to 500,000 stations nationwide last February.
“Our goal is to make sure you can get to grandma’s house on Thanksgiving in an electric vehicle without wondering if you’re going to have enough energy to make it.”
