Tesla seems to be expanding its reach into Texas’ energy market, as revealed by the recent job posts on Tesla’s website under the Energy- Solar and Storage category, according to Electrek.

Its plan to build a new electricity retail business in Texas has just been confirmed, and it is now seeking to fill the position of Product Operations Manager, Retail Electricity.

In an effort to sell electricity in Texas’ retail market, Tesla applied its new business unit, Tesla Energy Ventures to the Public Utility Commission of Texas last year. Since then, the company launched a virtual power plant demonstration with Powerwall owners in Texas, aiming to convince The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) in order to have a virtual power plant in the state, as it does in California.

To effectively oversee the launching and development of the new electricity retailer in Texas, the company needs a professional with rich experience “in residential electricity retail, preferably with a retail electricity provider in ERCOT.”

Tesla elaborated in the job post, “This Product Operations Manager will be central to the success of Tesla’s emerging Electricity Retail business. This person will support the launch and growth of a new electricity retailer in the Texas market. This person will be responsible for managing retail electricity products, administering the customer portfolio, coordinating customer support, and tracking financial performance.”

It is no surprise that Tesla plans to get deeper into the Texas energy market as it has been expanding its solar and storage business in the state. CEO Elon Musk believes that Tesla Energy has the potential to dethrone its automotive industry so the new electricity retail business must be part of its plan for Tesla Energy’s global expansion. Musk stated:

“In the long term, I expect Tesla Energy to be of the same or roughly the same size as Tesla’s automotive sector or business.”

Tesla is currently building what will likely become the largest rooftop solar installation in the world at Gigafactory Texas, and it is also planning a large battery system with a planned output of 250 MW. https://t.co/clMxFYnjz7

As of now, Tesla is already in the process of developing a rooftop solar installation at its Texas Gigafactory.
