Leading American electric automaker Tesla recently posted an interesting job advertisement for its humanoid robot program. As shared by X user @TeslaBotJournal, Tesla is currently hiring a Proto Production Supervisor.

In hindsight, Chief Elon Musk announced plans in Q2 Earnings Call to equip the first Optimus with the Tesla-developed actuators by November. This recent job opening significantly hints that the automaker has started the preparation to hit that target.

“The first Optimus that will have all of the Tesla-designed actuators, sort of production candidate actuators, integrated and working should be around November-ish.”

Job details

As mentioned, the job advertisement is for a Proto Production Supervisor for Tesla Bot. This position will be responsible for overseeing the production line of Tesla’s actuator prototype.

Tesla indicated that the person “will lead the team that assembles the most torque and power dense humanoid actuators in the world.”

Therefore, the person must closely collaborate with the manufacturing and design engineering department to ensure the production line’s smooth operation by providing necessary feedback.

An X user (@julia_truchsess) asked the Tesla Bot Journal if the automaker plans to produce prototypes or production models. In response, the Tesla Bot enthusiast stated:

“Production of prototypes will likely involve a low-volume line with [the] majority of the assembly being done manually. The goal is likely to iterate through multiple designs for each type of actuator and fine-tune the designs after subjecting them to both lab and real-world testing.”

What is Tesla Bot?

Tesla Bot is an autonomous humanoid robot that can fulfill unsafe, tedious, and repetitive tasks. The Musk-led company expects this innovative technology to aid its Gigafactories in ramping up production.

However, Tesla must first establish the software stacks to enable balance, navigation, perception, and real-world interaction.

That said, Tesla has been recruiting engineers in the following fields to aid in the development of these groundbreaking bi-pedal bots:

  • deep learning
  • computer vision
  • motion planning
  • controls
  • mechanical
  • general software engineers

Recent development progress

Tesla recently shared a video showcasing the latest developments in the humanoid robot program.

As you can see in the video, the Optimus is now capable of sorting objects autonomously, performing self-calibration, and taking corrective actions as needed.

Tesla has yet to announce when it plans to launch the complete production model of the Optimus. What we know for sure is that the automaker aims to first employ these humanoid bots at its Gigafactories for easy and boring tasks before commercializing them.

Notably, Goldman Sachs previously forecasted that such humanoid robots could be a $150 billion-a-year business in the next 15 years.

Goldman Sachs $GS just dropped a 70-page research on humanoid robots and predicts the humanoid market will be as big as the EV industry today by 2035, growing 94% a year to $154bn by 2035
