Tesla added the site at 901 Page Avenue of the Fremont Factory in 2015, as per recent filings reported by Top Car News. Now, the electric automaker is reportedly expanding its internal EV battery cell development in the building based on the application it signed on December 21.

The application states, “Cell Development Lab – New Cell Lab at 1st Floor,” filings show.

Notably, Tesla’s expansion in Fremont costs $1.5 million, per the filings.

It is worth noting that Gigafactory Nevada has been the primary location where Tesla has developed and produced EV battery cells for many years now. However, the top American automaker has expanded its operation in Fremont.

In fact, Tesla produced EV battery cells at the Fremont factory and manufactured prototype cells of the current 4680 chemistry at the nearby “Kato Road.”

Based on the job advertisements on Tesla’s official website, the automaker is hiring for roles involving engineering techniques. Specifically, it included wet chemistry and powder processing.

The notion that the job ads cite Fremont as the location raises the possibility that these vacant positions are associated with the new cell facility. However, it must be noted that it has yet to be confirmed.

Nonetheless, such important projects demonstrate Tesla’s dedication to boosting cell production and expanding the supply of batteries. It would significantly aid the automaker in its electric vehicle production ramp-up.
