Tesla‘s Gigafactory in Texas has hit a new production milestone, manufacturing 4,000 cars weekly. However, the factory is lagging in its production ramp-up compared to Gigafactory Berlin. Tesla has been simultaneously ramping up both factories to achieve volume production. While the automaker focuses on increasing production efficiency at both facilities, the latest figures suggest that Gigafactory Berlin is outpacing its Texan counterpart.

In its effort to ramp up production of a new vehicle at a new factory, Tesla aims to produce 5,000 units per week. In the previous month, Gigafactory Berlin achieved this milestone with 5,000 Model Y vehicles produced in a week. However, Gigafactory Texas was lagging behind with a production rate of only 3,000 units per week, and no updates have been available since December. Tesla recently announced that the Texan factory has made progress and is now producing 4,000 units per week. Despite the achievement, Gigafactory Texas still trails behind Gigafactory Berlin, which faces different challenges.

One key distinction between vehicles produced at Gigafactory Texas and other Tesla factories is that some of them use the company’s 4680 battery cells. These cells allow for a new “structural battery pack” chassis design. However, as we reported previously, Tesla has faced challenges in scaling up the production of the 4680 cells. This has reportedly affected production at the factory, though Tesla has responded by using 2170 battery cells for some Model Y vehicles, as it does in other factories.

Tesla's Giga Texas + Giga Berlin are at a combined annualized production rate of ~469,420 vehicles.

And it's April.

And they're still ramping.$TSLA
