Tesla disclosed in its Q4 and FY 2022 Update that its Full Self-Driving Beta reached more than 400,000 users in 2022 in US and Canada. It represents a significant growth from just 160,000 FSD Beta users in late September of the same year.

“We have now released FSD beta to nearly all customers in the US and Canada who bought FSD (approximately 400,000). This is an important milestone for our company. Every customer in the US and Canada can now access FSD Beta functionality upon purchase/subscription and start experiencing the evolution of AI-powered autonomy.”

FSD Beta’s growth

It is worth remembering that Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced plans in late September to launch the FSD Beta program globally by the end of the year during AI Day 2022. He further stated that Tesla would open its FSD Beta pool to EV owners worldwide with the same-year target.

Unfortunately, the planned global deployment did not materialize. Nonetheless, the user base has increased in a really remarkable way in such a short amount of time.

Tesla has more than doubled the FSD Beta pool in less than four months. It only had 160,000 users in North America and increased to 285,000 in late December.

Undoubtedly, it has made a significant contribution to the automaker’s database of semi-autonomous vehicles.

Tesla has also previously announced plans to launch the FSD Beta V11.3, which would have “many major improvements,” per CEO Musk. However, the automaker has not disclosed the exact schedule of the system update.

Apart from that, CEO Musk previously mentioned that the update was being reviewed. Thus, it might be deployed soon.

Interestingly, the data do not reflect people’s worries about Tesla’s autonomous efforts. That said, these will be crucial to regulators as Tesla moves closer to a period where they allow users to take their hands off the wheel.
