The referral program is part of the Musk-led company’s efforts to boost sales and deliveries before the end of the year.

Changes

As noted by Gear Musk, Tesla previously offered a $250 cash off for North American buyers who used their referrers’ links on all its electric vehicles.

Now, new Tesla Model 3 and Y customers who use referral links will benefit from 6 months of free Supercharging sessions by December 31, 2023. They will also gain access to Tesla’s Full Self-Driving suite for three months under the new referral program.

Meanwhile, Tesla Model S and X buyers with referral links will only gain three months of free FSD capability.

NEWS: Tesla has removed the $250 referral discount the buyer gets. Instead, you now get 6 free months of Supercharging (but only for the 3/Y). Model S/X just get 3 free months of FSD now.

Significance

According to Tesla North, these updates in the referral scheme are part of the Musk-led company’s strategy to deliver record-breaking annual production results in FY 2023.

It is worth noting that the changes occurred following Tesla’s failure to meet Wall Street Q3 2023 delivery forecasts.

The referral program’s new offers also followed the news revealing Tesla’s deployment of more than 2,000 Supercharger stations in the US alone in October, along with the start of installations of V4 Superchargers in the previous months.

Tesla’s sales strategy

Tesla has a huge reputation for launching customer discounts and incentive programs to elevate its sales and delivery figures before the year or particular quarter ends.

In hindsight, the EV giant offered up to $7,500 discounts on Tesla Model 3 and Y inventories in December last year. At the same time, it also launched 10,000-mile Supercharging credits for customers who received delivery before the set deadline, Teslarati reported.

In June, also offered free Supercharging for customers buying Tesla Model 3 inventories in the region to increase sales before the end of the second quarter.

Now, the changes in the referral program would enable Tesla owners to save more from the unlimited Supercharging credits compared to the previous $250 discount.

Tesla retained its sales target of 1.8 million EVs this year. In order to achieve that, the EV giant must reach almost 500,000 unit deliveries this quarter. It indicates a notable increase from the record deliveries of 466,140 units in the second quarter. The referral program can significantly aid the company in boosting its sales, along with the US IRA’s tax credits of up to $7,500.
