Highlights
  • Tesla's V4 Supercharger boosts EV battery range by 40% in just 10 minutes, setting a new benchmark for charging efficiency.
  • Newly designed V4 Superchargers feature a sleeker build with integrated Magic Dock and digital payment options for user convenience.
  • Expansion underway as Tesla rolls out V4 Superchargers across the US, following successful European introductions earlier this year.
  • Enhanced cable technology with immersion cooling supports rapid charging, preparing the ground for the upcoming Tesla Semi.

Tesla’s new V4 Supercharger has the capacity to provide another 40% battery range in just 10 minutes, as per the test conducted by YouTube content creator Kim Java.

Ms. Java spotted a new V4 Supercharger in Atlanta, Georgia. As you see at the 2:56 mark in her video, the unit has a sticker that indicates a power rating of 1,000 volts and 615 amps. It implies a potential 615 kW theoretical capability on the dispenser level like in Europe. However, it still sources energy from V3 cabinets.

The new V4 Supercharger generated 255 kW of power, charging Ms. Java’s Tesla Model 3 from 20% to 60% in just 10 minutes.

Deployment progress

Tesla has been ramping up its V4 Supercharger installations in the US. It initially hit the European market in early 2023. Now, installations have now reached Oregon, Nevada, Alabama, and Georgia.

EV-a2z previously reported Tesla’s V4 Supercharger deployment in Wilsonville, Oregon in August.

BREAKING: @Tesla is officially installing its first V4 Supercharger in the US in Wilsonville, Oregon.

Long term, V4 Superchargers should theoretically enable faster charging speeds. The cables are also 3 ft longer.

Improved design

InsideEVs noted the Tesla V4 Supercharger’s upgraded design. It now has a built-in Magic Dock (or CCS-1 adapter), a compact display, and a digital credit card reader for a more convenient transaction.

These units’ structures are also now taller and simpler than the previous design. Nonetheless, it boasts lighter and longer cable at 10 feet, 3.5 feet more than V3.

The cables also feature immersion cooling that integrates submerging hardware directly into a thermally conductive liquid. It enables the cables to release heat more efficiently.

These V4 Superchargers can also support Tesla Semi charging with a maximum output of 1,000 kilowatts.

Technical details

According to MUO, Tesla V4 Superchargers have faster charging capability with 250 kW power. It can also hit a maximum output of 350 kW in the future. It has a 615A amperage, compared to V3’s 425A. It also has 1,000V that can generate an output of 650 kW, but the charger connector limits the output to 350 kW.

It is currently the latest EV charger in Tesla’s portfolio, including the V1, V2, and V3. Tesla initially launched the latest version in Harderwjik, Netherlands in March 2023. Meanwhile, the first unit in the US occurred in October 2023 in Oregon.

Gaining a 40% driving range in just 10 minutes is indeed remarkable as it can significantly reduce the wait times in Tesla Supercharger stations.

Tesla’s Supercharging network continues to lead the global market with its unprecedented reliability and availability. Its new V4 Superchargers can significantly improve millions of EV owners’ lives with its longer cable, faster charging times, and contactless payment.
