Tesla has finally held the highly awaited Cybertruck Delivery Event on November 30. Now, the leading American electric automaker is attempting to convert current Cybetruck reservations into actual sales with a new $1,000 discount on any models before 2023 ends.
Tesla’s email to Cybertruck reservation holders
Existing Tesla Cybertruck reservation holders reportedly received an email from the Musk-led company urging them to buy a new model while they wait for their ordered stainless-steel electric pickup.
Here is the content of the email:
“Cybertruck is here and your reservation is in the queue. While you await delivery of your Cybertruck, get $1,000 off the lease or purchase of a new Tesla/ Place your new order by December 21, 2023, to qualify.”
Tesla
As mentioned in the email, Tesla is currently offering a $1,000 discount for Cybertruck reservation holders purchasing a new Model 3, Model Y, Model S, or Model X. However, it must be noted that it will only apply to orders placed by December 31, 2023.
Implication
Tesla’s move to tap into the enormous pool of Cybertruck reservation holders highlights its efforts to boost its sales and delivery figures before the end of the year. It seems that the EV giant is currently in dire need of more sales as soon as possible.
Apart from that, it also implies that Tesla may not be able to ramp up the production of the Cybertruck immediately to meet the growing demand. It seems that Tesla is trying to warn current Cybertruck reservation holders that their orders are not yet ready for them, so they can just get another Tesla in the meantime.
In hindsight, EV-a2z previously reported that customers who placed an order for the Cybertruck have already surpassed the 2 million unit threshold as of September.
Tesla’s sales target
Tesla has set a sales guidance of 1.8 million units for this year. As of the first nine months of the year, Tesla’s electric vehicle deliveries have reached a total of 1,324,074 units.
This figure already exceeded the FY 2022 results of 1,313,851 units but still falls short of the 1.8 million unit target for 2023.
“We continue to target 1.8 million vehicle deliveries this year, although we expect that Q3 production will be a little bit down because we’ve got some shutdowns to for — a lot of factory upgrades. So, just probably a slight decrease in production in Q3 for sort of global factory upgrades.”
Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated at the Q2 2023 Earnings Call
Tesla’s launch of a $1,000 discount on its S3XY electric vehicles is indeed enticing. However, it may not be a potential buy for customers who are looking to own a pickup truck. Nonetheless, it seems that Tesla is significantly boosting its promotion and pricing strategy to boost sales and reach its target of 1.8 million units this year.
