Tesla released the 4.16.1 update in its mobile app to include the same Energy App offered in its electric vehicles in the 2022.36 update last year, as reported by InsideEVs. Tesla owners can now view detailed data on their car’s overall energy consumption and range.
Features
Vehicle Range
Tesla App version 4.16.1 introduced the Vehicle Range tab as the main feature. It shows drivers comprehensive and detailed data on the energy used in their latest trips.
Furthermore, it allows Tesla owners to monitor their energy consumption while cars are in Park. The report noted that the updated Tesla App uses the following categories to calculate the car’s energy consumption: Driving, Climate, Elevation, Battery Conditioning, and Everything Else.
Trip
Tesla introduced the Trip feature in the mobile app update to show the car’s overall expected range. It is a simpler version of the Energy App’s feature that allows drivers to toggle between the projected and rated ranges.
Other features
Tesla mobile app’s displayed data indicates the following environmental and road factors: temperature, wind speed and direction, overall driving speed, and road elevation. With all those considerations, Tesla owners can be sure that the data displayed are accurate.
In addition, users may browse owner’s manuals, video instructions, and other content on the app and submit service requests.
Availability
The features included in the Tesla mobile app update are currently available in a few locations. Tesla might still be refining the app and could release fixes before a wider release.
Nonetheless, Not a Tesla App noted that the updated mobile app employs a server-side setting, which enables Tesla to release the feature at any time.
As per the report, Richard Lopes of Portugal-based EV rental company Watts on Wheels reported the first recorded update. Apart from him, the older Model S owners also received the update as their cars are not equipped with the in-vehicle Energy App.
Therefore, Tesla may include the Energy App in older models with upcoming upgrades or, at the very least, allow them to utilize the mobile app.
It must be noted that owners benefit from having access to extensive energy consumption data for their vehicles. It enables them to make better travel plans, identify which features use the most energy, and steer clear of energy-intensive activities.
That said, the update is expected to ultimately significantly impact drivers seeking to improve efficiency as soon as it expands to all users.
