Electric vehicle giant Tesla has partnered with ride-hailing services platform Uber to offer interested drivers up to $3,000 discounts in buying its electric vehicles.
Tesla investor @SawyerMerritt shared the screenshot of the new promotional scheme on X.
Partnership details
The new partnership will witness Tesla sell its electric vehicles directly to drivers via Uber’s platform.
For context, Uber operates its own online vehicle marketplace for vehicles with enticing deals for drivers seeking to purchase new or used EVs.
The said platform now included Tesla as a “partner” with up to $3,000 discounts on Model 3 and Model Y units.
Available discounts depend on the driver’s rating. Moreover, drivers must receive their vehicles by December 2023 and complete 100 trips before February 15, 2024, in order to secure the discounts.
Refer to the table below:
Rating | Deal |
Blue and Gold Drivers | $1,000 |
Platinum Drivers | $2,000 |
Diamon Drivers | $3,000 |
How to qualify?
The Street outlined that interested Uber drivers need to utilize the Tesla for Drivers on Uber’s website to get an offer on the eligible models directly from the factory or store inventory. That said, they will lose their eligibility when they do not use the provided link.
Uber drivers must also buy and receive delivery before the year ends while supplies last, indicating an apparent strategy for the automaker to boost its sales and delivery figures.
They must also register the acquisition by registering the vehicle’s details to their Uber driver profile, such as the identification number.
Tesla’s popularity among ridesharing companies
Electrek reported Hertz’s substantial order of 100,000 Tesla Model 3 units in 2020 as part of its electrification efforts. The deal indicated the delivery in the following year.
After that, the car rental firm disclosed its new partnership with Uber that enabled its drivers to drive the Tesla EVs. This collaboration paved the way for the availability of 50,000 Tesla car rentals to Uber drivers. Uber also acquired several Tesla EVs for its separate fleet.
Drivers must receive vehicle delivery on December 2023 and fulfill the 100 trips target before February 15, 2024, to get the discount. They will receive the discount in the form of a rebate in their Uber account within 30 days of finishing the given task.
